Prepopulation custom fields in edit page

Hi,
My posts will each have a certain amount of meta data in them. that is, each time i write a new post, i have to add about 20 items that will populate a table in each entry. Is there a way to edit the editor page so that my custom fields are already listed?

I’m not talking about the drop down either. A good way to describe is to create a post and add like 5 or so custom fields. See how the manage page now shows those 5 custom fields with their contents, right before the place to add a new one? I want those fields to appear when i first start to create a post.

I tried to search for information on the method that I think is responsible, nothing came up. I’m not too good at php either, so i may be missing it.
