Presentation tabs not working

    Hello,

    I am new to WordPress and finally have it up and runnning (well, sort of.) My hosting provider installed an older version, so I have updated to the newest version. When I updated yesterday, I got this message:

    Warning: mkdir(C:\Domains\dkbuchmann.com\wwwroot\blog/wp-content/themes/my-weblog): Permission denied in C:\Domains\dkbuchmann.com\wwwroot\blog\wp-admin\upgrade-functions.php on line 802

    But, right under that, it said:
    Step 1

    I thought that maybe everything would be okay, so I decided to try it out. At first (yesterday), I was having trouble seeing new themes that I downloaded and selected. I could see them in the Presentation tab area and could select any as the current theme. Then, when I would view them in my blog, they would look really screwy.

    I re-uploaded everything, and that allowed me to choose and use the theme that I have on there now.

    I was very excited about that until, today, when I went to select a new theme, it wouldn’t let me. I am wondering if the tabs in the Presentation area are messed up.

    The “Themes” tab is the one that shows the list of files to the right and the code in a window. It has the selection box and the top so that I can select any of my themes from a list. Then, when I hit select, it doesn’t update the files to the right or anything. It still has the current theme AND the selection button actually leads me to the “Theme Editor” tab/page. That page is the one with the images of each theme and the “current theme” image displayed at the top.

    Does anyone know what might be happening? I’m not very techy – sorry!

    Wow…nevermind. I kept trying to do strange things and actually got it to work. Instead of re-uploading everything through Filezilla (which, I discovered, wasn’t even showing all of the themes I have on the remote site…I don’t know why…), I decided to try Dreamweaver.

    Well, Dreamweaver was showing all of the themes that I had on the remote site, which was a plugs. Yet, FTPing through Dreamweaver only made things worse! I couldn’t even log it.

    I decided to re-upload through FileZilla to fix it all and, voila, everything is working and you can disregard my earlier post…strange!

    It’s a case of sometimes your ftp client and your ISP getting their wires crossed during upload, with the result of corrupting some files. I’ve had instances where I had to do four or five reuploads.

    Lately, if I’m not installing through Fantastico, I’ve just uploaded the zipped file and unzipped it on the server. A zipped distro seems to be less problematic as to corruption than a bunch of discrete files.

    Huh, that is so crazy. It’s good to know that it’s not me. ??

    I’ve never unzipped a file on a server before. Would I do that in the Firefox window?

    sorry- I meant FileZilla window,not Firefox window. ??

    No, generally you need to access the file manager in your host control panel – and I’m really only familiar with cPanel so don’t know if that even works in Plesk, VDesk, Ensim etc.

    Okay, thanks. I don’t really know what those are, but perhaps myPHPadmin is the same thing. ??

    Can’t do it through phpMyAdmin. Does your host provide cPanel as your control panel with them?
