Hi we checked with an arbitrary image but cannot find any issues with preserving creation date, GPS location or copyright.

If you have the original file (before uploading) and the optimised original (from your WordPress wp-content folder), can you maybe share so we can try reproduce the problem you are experiencing?

Hi Navotera, thanks for sharing the image.

We checked with https://metapicz.com but there is no creation date in the file. That could be because WordPress strips all metadata from thumbnails it generates. The plugin can only retain metadata in the original uploaded images.

As for the GPS location, if we upload that in a WordPress installation it does seem to preserve the location (Latitude: 3.280754 South, Longitude 114.583449 East).

Some programs like Photoshop may show a creation date but that may very well be the time the file was created.

i try to reproduce this on wpsandbox here the detail :

    Login: https://nutty-fish.w6.poopy.life/wp-admin/
    Username: demo
    Password: y75rY90hqIGW
    — valid for 24 hours since this posted

install this plugin and upload my pic, but when done uploaded however the exif data including the GPS location vanish.

Hi Navotera, thanks for the sandbox. We checked and could upload an image there that would maintain the geo-location.

This is the example that was optimised and has the geo-location still in there:

    https://nutty-fish.w6.poopy.life/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/sharesystembg-1-1024×682-1.jpg

Maybe it can be a bit confusing because WordPress strips all metadata from thumbnail images, so it is only possible to retain the geo-location in the original upload.

You will also need to enable “Preserve GPS location in the original image” in the media settings, it was not selected when we checked, but I presume that you did this in your real website.
