Why is there no longer a “Press This” tool in the <-Tools item in the WP Dashboard? I use this tool extensively daily. Will the Press This tool be similar to the previous version where you highlight and click on Press This and your post edit is created?

Also, the lat version of WP did not carry over URL links identified in the content pressed like it did before. This cut a lot of time in publishing posts. I did read that there were some additional changes being developed in WP 4.4, but can’t figure out if the press this tool will be included.

Press This hasn’t gone anywhere, it’s still there. Click “Tools” in your Dashboard’s sidebar, and you should see it (its in the main Tools section, not its own sub-section).

Would you please clarify what you mean by “URL links identified in the content pressed like it did before”?

Thanks James Huff. For example, the following content pressed by the “press This” tool on my ”SHOW FAVORITES” under the URL on my Mac OS X El Capitan web browser has the shortlink but when it is pressed, I have to manually insert the link in the LINK insert bar on the Press This Tool. This isn’t too bad if if I have several links within the content I have to manually insert each link into the LINK (chain image).

The Advocate ( https://theadvocate.com/news/acadiana/14179574-148/20-million-in-renovations-expansion ) reports. The renovations also include a new cafe, a gift shop and a restaurant, according to Amy Jones, a communications consultant for the Chitimacha tribe.

I did just now find the Press This tool.

By “my Mac OS X El Capitan web browser” do you mean Safari, or a different browser, like Firefox?

    (@jaydokie)

    No Safari.

Ok, this appears to be normal. Looks like a change geared towards directing traffic back to the quoted article, rather than just taking the content entirely.

Previously though, any linked sites or articles in the original post would automatically be pressed into the post. Now I have to edit the post to create the link from the original article. Am I explaining this right?

    Moderator James Huff

    (@macmanx)

Yes, that is what it did previously. It doesn’t do that anymore.

    (@jaydokie)

No. Like I said now it presses pure content and I have to manually create the link in the edit post screen.

I know, that’s how it works now. There’s nothing wrong with it. It was an intentional change to direct traffic back to the excerpted article.

    Here is an example:

As critics and legislators were quick to point out, Scott’s $3 billion deal — a major expansion of gambling in the state of Florida…

It used to carry over the linked portion “Scott’s $3 billion deal” but now it doesn’t press it so I have to use the link tool in “Press This” and type the URL link.

Right, that’s how PressThis works now. Nothing is wrong with it, and there is no way to change it.

    That’s how it works.

Ok. Thanks for all of your help.
