Pretty Fantastic, But…

  • Overall, this plugin is fantastic. It works and it works really well.

    The one thing I have an issue with, and perhaps if I understood coding better, it would be something I could fix, is that this plugin should really just create a new page that is accessible from the backend to customize.

    My theme (and other plugins) for this particular website offers certain things I can do on the page/post edit page, and because the /events page is automatically created and for some reason NOT included in the official list of website pages, none of the usual options for a page are accessible to me. So, be it Yoast SEO, or creating an excerpt for the page, or anything else doesn’t seem to doable without editing plugin files, I suppose.

    If it’s possible to create a different page format in the page format dropdown (i.e., default template, contact page template, and events calendar template, etc.) then the page itself would be accessible as just one of the pages on the website rather than a outlier page where quite a few HTML options are offered, but it’s not the same options I have on my regular pages.

    Just a thought. Still 5*!

    What a great review! We love good, constructive feedback and you have taken it to a new level.

    I totally hear you on creating pages. The calendar itself is actually an archive template for events, which are a custom post type. Editing archives are pretty hard to do in the typical WordPress editing screen. And while we do offer the ability to override templates , it does indeed require a little bit of coding which I agree can be daunting.

    I do bear good news. We are working hard on re-thinking how shortcodes work for the calendar. We’re still in the early planning stage, but our hope is that being able to embed full calendar views into any page or post will do exactly what you’re looking for. You can track our progress here.
