Pretty Permalink index.php not showing posts

    I have used the Microsoft URL Rewrite Module to enable Pretty Permalinks on Windows IIS7, with PHP 5.2.6 and CGI.
    Using the following custom permalink structure.
    /%year%/%monthnum%/%day%/%postname%/
    index.php opens but does not show posts, other links ok.

    If I use /%index.php%/%year%/%monthnum%/%day%/%postname%/
    index page displays posts ok.

    Would prefer to use Pretty Permalinks structure if possible.

    Any suggestions would be appreciated.
