Pretty Permalinks not working

Hey guys,

I’ve recently uploaded wordpress to my domain and wrote my first blog post. However, I wanted to structure the blog (and posts) to archive in a more technical manner. When I try selecting “Pretty Permalinks” as the option of display, I get an ‘Error 404’ message on my blog and that the page cannot be found.

I’ve tried editing the .htaccess file so far based on what other users have done, hasn’t worked.

I checked to make sure that the PHP (5.2) and MySQL (5.x) are current.

The permalinks is having an effect on the actual links too. Clicking on the title of my first post Should link to the blog post by itself, however it re-routes to my website.. Same goes for the “About” section due to the default permalink structure.. I can access the websites manually if I add “blog/” before the page.
