Prevent converting h1 to h2

Is there any way to prevent the plugin from automatically forcing all h1 (except the page title) down to h2? My site generally follows the convention of having only 1 h1 on the page, except for the main blog page which is set to use h1 for the titles of the 3 posts it displays. Forcing them down to h2 ruins the formatting and look. Is there a way to prevent this?
