• Is there a photo plugin that looks really nice that will prevent phots from being taken off of my blog page? I have Shadowbox at the moment. The photos are secure on regular pages, but can be heisted from my blog page. I also want something that is compatible with FotoMoto. Thanks. Mardi

  • No – only way is to not post them online. Watermarking will be the best strategy.

What do you mean they are secure on regular pages – how so?

They can’t be dragged off. Of course I know a screenshot could be taken. I do have the photos displayed at low resolution with a watermark. Just wondered as I am considering redoing my website.

    There are other ways too.

That does not make it impossible for people to download the photos — not just via a screenshot.

WPyogi, aren’t photos downloaded automatically to your machine’s temporary files anyway, just by viewing the photos on the website?

Yes, so far as I know, they are cached by the browser…but that might depend on user preferences, etc.

Also, in Firefox, for example, if you look at Tools –> Page Info, then under the media tab – there is a list of all media on the page — and then there is a button to “Save As” – and bingo – image saved by user.

There goes my sense of security. I guess this is the new world order of things. Thanks for the information.

Yeah, sorry – the real truth is that nothing you post online is “safe” or “private.” For photos, watermarking and low-res versions are probably the best approach – though certainly not perfect for obvious reasons.
