Prevent STRETCHED thumbnails?!

Hi All.

At one point I had problems with my thumbnails getting stretched. I am using the same image that is in the content of the post as the thumbnail – which appears to be the default behavior. I thought I fixed this – perhaps by changing some of the F8 Static code??

Now the problem is back.

I don’t want to have to upload an image /twice/ – and actually have to /size/ the images in order to get it to fit into the thumbnail section. I JUST want to have it get cropped and not to stretch the image in any way. This looks really stupid and distorts the image.

There is a SETTING in MEDIA for Thumbnail Size (310 x 150) that says ” Crop thumbnail to exact dimensions (normally thumbnails are proportional)”. This was unchecked. I have tried to CHECK it and then test with a new Post. Same problem. The thumbnail is stretched.

I can’t find my earlier post on this and in order to remember if I changed any code I would have to download one of the files (not sure which one) and compare it against the original file in a text editor or something. Anyone know why this problem is now back and how to fix it?
