I’m getting the ‘Preview could not be loaded’ error.

    My System info >> https://pastebin.com/hyKZ7v6f

Here is the problem and what I have done so far…

    1. I have the same site live and in staging.
    2. All plugins, WP and theme are up-to-date.
    3. Elementor is working fine on staging but I’m getting ‘The preview could not be loaded’ error on live site and am unable to edit posts or pages.
    4. I have followed all suggestions from Elementor i.e disable all plugins, up the memory limit etc…no change.
    5. I have rolled back Elementor…no change, and reinstalled the latest version…no change.
    6. I have experimented with PHP version…no change.
    7. I have cloned my staging site to live…no change (still working fine on staging but not on live).
    8. The only difference I can see between the two sites (stagin & live) is that when I compare the Console in the ‘Inspect’ window when Elementor post edit page is loading/not loading I get an error.

Uncaught Error: Automatic publicPath is not supported in this browser

I thought it was the theme so I had my theme guys look at it and they have explained that the specific file that’s throwing this error is https://welshfoodanddrink.wales/wp-content/plugins/elementor/assets/js/webpack.runtime.min.js

    Any ideas??

  • Hi,

Which browser and version of a browser are you using. Maybe it’s outdated?

    (@russwcm)

Nope…always up to date. I’m currently on Chrome Version 98.0.4758.82 (Official Build) (64-bit)

    Hi there,

    Please perform these additional steps:

1)Make sure the theme files exist. Install or re-install your theme to make sure it works properly.
    2) Check the structure of your permalinks. Try to save your permalinks one more time. Also, try to change the permalink structure to Plain (Dashboard > Settings > Permalinks > Plain). Some servers do not allow to write to the .htaccess file and as a matter of fact, you cannot always modify your permalink structure and edit with Elementor.
3)Edit in incognito mode with your browser. This rules out an issue with the browser cache. You should also make sure no add-ons are working in incognito mode and possibly try a different browser altogether.
4)Solve Rocket Loader issue. Elementor and Cloudflare integrate smoothly with each other. Though there is an issue with Rocket Loader. Click for the solution
5)Verify that you do not have a redirect on the page. You can see if it is the case by hitting the debug preview button on the error message.
6)Solve hosting issues. Although this situation is very rare, please verify with your host provider if your WordPress install includes the .htaccess file. If your .htaccess file is missing, check out this link to regenerate. Also, check with your hosting company if your server erases the PHP $_GET variable.
7)HTTP errors. When HTTP errors exist, they can lead to this error you’re experiencing. To solve HTTP errors, go to this article and follow the recommended steps according to the HTTP error found on your page.`

    @russwcm Are you ok?

Yes thanks. These are all things I have tried to be honest. I even took the site completely off Cloudflare in case that was the problem.

I’m waiting to hear back from host company as to whether the server erases the PHP $_GET variable.

I still think the weirdest thing about this is that it works fine on my staging site!

Update: I’ve heard back from host…

I can confirm that no variables are removed by default including the PHP $_GET variable.

Hi, thanks for letting us know.

It might be a webpack error. Can you please remove completely the Elementor plugin and install it again? Some of the files may be corrupted

    (@russwcm)

Isn’t that going to mean I lose everything I have built in Elementor?

    Hi,

Make sure to fully back up your site beforehand

‘It might be a webpack error.’

OK but why would everything work fine on staging and not on live when it is a clone of the live site?

    Hi,

This may be checked also by your hosting provider since there may be some error blocking our files.
