• I’m working on an old version of WP (don’t kill me, it’s for an old client and I want to update their site, but there’s things keeping me from doing that quite yet). Currently, I’m just trying to update some pages for them, but I’m running into an error that it seems others have gotten as well, but their solutions aren’t relevant to/working for me.

The age-old “You do not have permission to preview drafts.” issue.
This is happening when I try to preview:
    – a saved draft
    – a ‘pending review’ page/post
    – a published page/post (yes, even if it’s publish, I still can’t preview it??)

In addition to this issue, I’m getting 404 pages when:
    – I try to preview an UNSAVED draft…
    – I PUBLISH the page and go to it’s url…

The site has the same Site URL and WordPress URL, so that’s not an issue (like it has been for some others). Some have suggested just waiting for it to go away/let it resolve itself, but I’d like to know if there might be other options as I need to get these edits finished.

Bad plugin or theme? Switch back to the relevant default theme for your version of WordPress and try deactivating all plugins.

What version of WordPress is currently running?

I think I can trace it to a bad theme. I inherited the project from someone else and when I started looking into what it would take to update the whole thing – WP, theme and plugins – I discovered that the theme hadn’t been updated for over a year while we had updated WP somewhat recently.

My guess is that whoever updated WP didn’t check on the theme when they did. Means I get to push updating to the whole thing sooner though!

Thank you for the suggestions of what to look at.

If it’s a WPORG theme, I wouldn’t expect the them to be an issue. Not at just a year old. Two or more years old, yes. But one? Not so much.

This one wasn’t a WP theme and the creator hasn’t updated it since 2013.
