Thanks for the great theme, really enjoy using it!

I have a question regarding link sharing. Each time I share a link in Microsoft Teams, it creates a preview link something like this:

    Example Site Name
A post from Author Name on Example Site Name provided by https://example.com
    example.com

How do I change the text or completely disable this kind preview link from being created? I especially would like to get rid of the author name.

    Thanks in advance!

  • Hello @kh93

Do you happen to have an SEO plugin installed on this site, by any chance?

    Thanks.

    Hello @kh93

Alrighty. Let’s verify one thing really quick. Are the Schema.org and OpenGraph metadata options turned on in the Customiser -> General -> Visitor Engagement pane? – https://creativethemes.com/blocksy/docs/general-options/engagement-general/

    Thanks.

    @cteduard Thanks for your reply!

I just took a look and the Schema.org Markup is on, but the OpenGraph Meta Data setting is off.

    Hello @kh93

From what I have researched, MS’ Teams app requires OpenGraph to gather the data from the link. Can you please try turning on OpenGraph? It should make things look better.

However, please note that some of these services may cache a link result for some time. It would be best to test this with a link that hasn’t been shared, after turning on OpenGraph.

    Thanks.

@cteduard Thanks, enabling OpenGraph now gives an excerpt of the page content, and it looks much better in Teams.

    Two last questions:

    • How can I customize what appears in the link preview?
    • How do I disable the link preview completely?

    Thanks for your help!

    Hello @kh93

If you want to customize what’s shown in the preview, you will need a specialised plugin, such as any of the SEO ones. Our OpenGraph implementation is provided to automatically grab the data from your posts. Specialised plugins give you more control over what’s shown in the preview.

The preview cannot be disabled since it is not controlled by the site, but by the Teams app. It may be needed to research if they allow the previews to be disabled.

    Thanks.

@cteduard Thanks so much, I’ll definitely look into plugins. But just so I’m clear about this: “Our OpenGraph implementation is provided to automatically grab the data from your posts.

This implementation on the end of the theme cannot be turned off? I’m fine with making my own PHP customizations or using child theme to do this, if it’s possible I’d just need some pointers as to how this is done within the theme. Thank you!

    Hello @kh93

No, that was in context with that paragraph – if the option is turned on, it automatically grabs the data but does not let you modify it.

However, I’m really sorry to say, but the system is not modifiable with code. If you want to modify what OpenGraph meta data is grabbed, then you will most likely need to install a specialised SEO plugin.

    Hope this clears things up!

    Thanks.
