Preview New Browser Updates Page

    A client brought this to my attention so I tested it on several sites I manage that were updated to 5.5 – about half had this issue.

    When they edit a post and then click Preview in New Editor – the website updates with those changes.

    No need to publish or update – it auto changes on preview.

    These pages do not all have the same plugins and if they did I deactivated them to see if that was the cause but it was not.

    How can I troubleshoot this and has anyone else have this happen?

    I think I may have narrowed this down to a conflict with ACF Pro – so you may want to check if you have 5.5 and that plugin! I have a support ticket in with ACF to see if they can replicate.

    I am also having this issue, with the following behaviour:

    Previewing any changes to existing pages actually publishes those changes to the live page. Seems to make the preview feature pointless.

    The auto-save function also seems affected by this, as auto-saves are automatically pushed to the live site as well. Normally, when I make changes to a page, the auto-save saves a draft of what I was working on but didn’t update the live page. Now it does. That means I could be in the middle of typing a sentence, and if the auto-save cycles it will push that half-written sentence to the live page.

    We too are using the ACF Pro plugin and have updated to 5.5.

    I am being told by people on my team that this is how WordPress works now and the new process should be to switch live pages to Draft, then make changes, then publish again. However, I haven’t seen this in any documentation or change logs, so can anyone confirm that is true? It doesn’t seem practical to me.
