• I’m working on a site that the previous designer designed with avada/fusion builder/slider design software. As far as I’ve been able to glean, the designer now owns the registration key and the only way I can edit the site (ie. add logo, change header text) is by buying the activation key off them.

Does anyone have any experience with this ? Will the site eventually break without avada updates ?

I tried avada support but it takes 7 days to reply to a pre-sales query and you have to have a license to post on their forums ??

The only solution i can think of is to change theme to a regular wordpress theme or elses re script the site from scratch.

    Help !

  • Hi,

You should just be able to buy a new licence for all the themes/plugins you need and update them in the settings, the content/code should stay the same within WordPress, nothing should be removed or altered. This should include updating theme settings such as new imagery.

The site won’t necessarily break, I’ve worked with Avada before and other themes which have not been updated in a long time – it depends on more than just the theme. If you update core files / plugins you may find there is a future incompatibility yes, but it will depend on how out of date you are. Re-buying any missing licences and adding it to the site should allow you to take back full control.

If you want to keep up to date with WordPress, plugins, and themes for security, licencing or migrating as you stated is probably the best way forward.

    Kind regards,
    Charlene

    Hi Charlene,

Thanks. I’m just wondering – without forking out for the new license. Can I change around the theme ? Add dropdown menus, replace photos, add links, change headers etc…

Sorry if you answered this already. I’m just trying to be super clear ??

    Thanks,

    Dara

    Hi @dbee78

If I remember correctly (been a while since I used that theme in particular) yes you should be able to make changes still. The issue will be with upgrading it – so you’ll fall behind with security upgrades, new features, etc. And you may find in the future the theme has issues with newer WordPress features.

I would take a backup of the site if you can before making changes though, files & database.

    Kind regards,
    Charlene
