After updating the plugin, the NEXT button does not go to the next event

    https://peterleidy.com/speaking-and-workshop-schedule/
    October 16 event for example.
Next event should be October 17 and previous event should be Oct 10-13
    Instead
Right arrow goes to August 17, 2017 (past event)
Left arrow link goes to July 17 (past event)
(… and then the October 16 is no longer in the link chain)

    Thank you

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

  • The reason is because how WordPress navigates between posts (events are just custom posts).

WordPress navigates using the publication date of a post. For this to work on events you need to make sure the publication date is the same as the event date. There is an option to do this for new event on the ‘Event Settings’ page. For existing events use the editor in the ‘Publish’ box on the right.

you need to make sure the publication date is the same as the event date

If the publication date = the event date, won’t the event only show the day it is going on? That will certainly not do.

This website doesn’t have a blog so only events are involved, the only post type. Why did it work before?

Shouldn’t website visitors be able to page through events? … seems logical to me and certainly shouldn’t go to past events.

When you display a single event on the page it uses the same theme template at it uses for single posts. This template may include the prev/next navigation links

Previous and Next navigation uses the publication date. This is a WordPress function not a plugin function.

So while I can understand your frustration, it’s a wordpress thing not a plugin thing.

Others have used the publication date = event date successfully and I’ve tested in on my own site and it all seems to work.

And you can’t block people from seeing old events, if an event post is in the database, WordPress will display the event if requested.

I changed the setting as you suggested but the right nav arrows go
    Oct 26 > Nov 2 2017 > (2 dates skipped) May 7 2018 > (skips back to 2017) Sept 18 2017

    should be ..
    Oct 26 > Nov 2 > Feb 7 > Apr 12 > May 8

left nav dates make even less chron sense…

I appreciate the reply… I understand the wp functionality which makes sense for reading articles but that does not help the site visitor when it comes to event dates.

    “the way it works” understood.

No idea why it’s not working. Prev/next navigation isn’t part of the plugin functionality so I didn’t put a lot of effort into providing anything more than a simple solution.

I’m assuming you have edited and resaved every event?

Could you try creating a new event on 5 Nov and see what happens

If you also contact me through the support site: quick-plugins.com I can send you an update to the plugin.

I created a new Nov 5 event and it remained same but skipped the new one too:

    Oct 26 > Nov 2 2017 > (3 dates skipped) May 7 2018 > (skips back to 2017) Sept 18 2017

I will contact you for the update. Thanks.
