    Hello!
I recently uploaded WP 2.9 and I’ve done several successful installs on other websites so I feel like I have a pretty good handle on it.
Pretty baffled now. This website was maintained previously, so I wiped out all the files that were there and uploaded all the WP stuff. All of the MySQL entries are correct and the user was added to the database no problem.
    But, I’m getting a 404 page!?
I’m using cPanel if that helps.
    Thanks!!!

I was wondering if anyone knows what this error is?
    This is what I get:

    Not Found

The requested URL / was not found on this server.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

  • This does not show a wp installation:

    or am I missing something?

No, you’re right: it doesn’t show it but when I use the FTP client, it’s ALL there. What do you think that could be?

Did you install in a directory like “wordpress” and when yes what is the name of the direcoty?

Were you able to run /wp-admin/install.php ?

Can you see an index.php in your ftp program, in the root directory?

It’s in the root folder- no other directory. ??
I wasn’t able to run wp-admin/install.php, either, and it’s IN the folder as well. Index.php is also there (in the root).

This might be more complicated than just a wordpress install issue…
I’m not sure what to do if all the files are there but none of them are registering. I also made an index.html temporarily to see if it would work, and it did not, either.

    Hi,

In this sort of situations I allways try in my browser: https://www.yoursite.com/license.txt
    and https://www.yoursite.comindex.php

when both give a 404 it means usually the files are really not there (on the server).
Is ‘nt there a leftover .htacces file? Some ftp progs don’t show them (before you select: “show invisible”). Delete it.

Should not the installation be in a “main” directory like pubic_html or httpdocs?
Otherwise, time to ask your host.

OMG! i just upgrade my wordpress in half and hour, and now, I can’t access all.. even my cpanel.

I upgrade the wordpress 2.9 automatically through the wordpress dashboard. HELP!

    I LOVE MY SITE!!!

    Thank you!!!!!
It was all the public_html folder.

    Emazens…. Ummm…..

Do you know how to FTP? You might have to do a manual install. Alternately, you’ll want to consider downgrading back to 2.8. (I’m looking for the 2.8 download myself, as my favorite, most integral plugin isn’t working with 2.9).

https://www.ads-software.com/download/release-archive/ but older versions are more easily hacked!
