    Confused.

**I’m doing a fresh WordPress installation.**

    Installation: Manual
    Type: Multisite (Network of sites)
    Installation On: cPanel
    Location: Sub-directory (custom location)
    Primary Domain: Non-WordPress site
    Addon Domains: WordPress sites

    So is this possible?
    www.primary-domain.com – A non-WordPress site
    www.addon-domain-1.com – WordPress site
    www.addon-domain-2.com – WordPress site

Because the WordPress installation will happen through the primary domain name (https://primary-domain.com/folder/wp-admin/install.php) as explained on the Installation Page – Step 5.

  • I’m not a multi-site expert so I may be wrong on this but it’s my understanding that you can do something like this:

    primary-domain.com – non wordpress
    primary-domain.com/subdomain – wordpress multisite root
    primary-domain/subdomain/subdomain -(sites under WP multisite)
    or
    primary-domain.com – non wordpress
    subdomain.primary-domain.com – wp mutlisite root
subdomain2.primary-domain.com – (subsite domains under wp multisite)

see https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Create_A_Network for specific details on installing multisite WordPress

This just confused me more. What I’ll do is start working on creating the network of sites. And if I face any issues I’ll come here and post.

    Update:

I just completed the steps in Create A Network.

Now, I have WordPress installed in a sub-directory, (and everything is working fine. I can login, post, etc.) but I don’t know how to proceed. What should I do after adding a new site under primary-domain.com/folder/wp-admin/network/site-new.php.

The last thing I did was that I added the new desired domain under addon domains of cPanel. Now how do I proceed to making it work like a site addon-domain.com.

I’m more confused now. Need advice.

Update: This problem has been partly resolved. (Meaning: It is possible to do it.)
