    Hi There,

I have an image logo for my title and a background image on my site https://newsmom.com.

I’m getting the following warning fro page Speed and I’m wondering if this plugin can help.

    Prioritize visible content
Your page requires additional network round trips to render the above-the-fold content. For best performance, reduce the amount of HTML needed to render above-the-fold content.
The entire HTML response was not sufficient to render the above-the-fold content. This usually indicates that additional resources, loaded after HTML parsing, were required to render above-the-fold content. Prioritize visible content that is needed for rendering above-the-fold by including it directly in the HTML response.
Only about 13% of the final above-the-fold content could be rendered with the full HTML response show original.

I see you have actived inline&defer, but the thing Google is complaining about is is that you (probably had to) inline a too big amount of CSS (which results in multiple network round trips being needed as your actual content comes after a lot of CSS). You could try trimming that down somehow, but that won’t be easy I’m afraid.

    Should i deactivate that?

I deactivated inline and defer and activated inline all css… but no change. Thoughts?

I have a high bounce rate. what would you suggest?

“inline all CSS” will probably produce the same Google Pagespeed Insights warning (“additional network round trips”).

sometimes you have to let Google’s warnings be I’m afraid; they’re guidelines which cannot always be met (or at least not without profound changes to your setup).

regarding bounce rate: not something I can comment on really. my gut-feeling says blogs typically have a higher bounce-rate, with people dropping in via search and leaving the site after that request. but I might be wrong ??

re Your high bounce rate – check the “Acquisition -> All traffic -> Channels” in Google Analytics then look at the “Referral” sites.

Likely you have a bunch of spam referring sites that are causing this. You can tell by the high bounce rate from referral sites like SEO-Success.com etc – all have 100% bounce rate.

Use something like ZenCache plug in to have these sites blocked.

This is a major issue and causing skewed stats in your Analytics

    Thanks Frank,

Re Bounce rate, I just brought that up as an FYI. I am a blog/news site, so by default i have a high bounce rate.

I notice in your FAQ you mention sites with a high bounce rate (like blogs) may want to inline all css.

If you have a high bounce rate and a low number of average pages per visit, inlining CSS looks like a good idea.

I was just wondering, considering that I have a high bounce rate, and I have a slow mobile page speed score, do you think “Inline and Defer CSS?” or “Inline all CSS?” would be a better option to help get rid of the “Prioritize visible content” warning and/or speed up my site?

Ok, so this is strange. I just switched back from “Inline all CSS” to “Inline and Defer CSS?” and the “Prioritize visible content” warnign has gone away!

all the better! google pagespeed insights is great, but it can be somewhat unpredictable at times, so in general I advise people to use it as a guideline instead of an absolute judge and rely on actual page speed (mind the space) using e.g. https://www.webpagetest.org/
