• When I set a custom post to private, it shows a “not found” page, but without the 404 template. The content loop is missing altogether.

If I disable the plug in, it shows the 404 template page.
The 404 template page is made with the Astra custom layout.
I tried everything in the settings of the permalink manager lite plugin, to no avail.

The problem is Google Search Console mark those pages as “indexed but without content”.
    Any help will be appreciated.

    Hi @carlosvai,

Could you check what version of plugin are you currently using? The problem you have experienced should be already addressed in 2.2.9.9 version:
    https://plugins.trac.www.ads-software.com/changeset/2556066/permalink-manager/trunk/includes/core/permalink-manager-core-functions.php?old=2493056&old_path=permalink-manager%2Ftrunk%2Fincludes%2Fcore%2Fpermalink-manager-core-functions.php

    Best regards,

    Thanks for your response Maciej.
I′m using the last version 2.2.11
The strange thing is that only happens with 2 posts. currently I have about 10 in that same private status.

    Hi @carlosvai,

Could you provide me with a sample URL where the problem occurs?

    Best regards,

This is one of the affected posts, the strange thing is that some of the same custom post send correctly to the 404 page and some just an empty template.

    Hi @carlosvai,

Sorry for my late response, but I was offline last week. Could you try to enable “Advanced settings -> Automatically fix broken URIs” mode in Permalink Manager settings. Please select “Fix URIs individually (during page load)“.

    Best regards,
    Maciej

I enabled that option but strangely enough now those private posts are visible ??
Disabled it and cleaned the cache but still visible in incognito mode. Is that possible?
Sorry to be a pain, and thanks for your help.

    Hi @carlosvai,

Hmm, I checked the HTTP headers and it looks like 404 status code is returned correctly. As far as I can see, the problem is in the fact that incorrect 404-error-page template is loaded.

Does the same problem appears also when you try to access private page and Permalink Manager is deactivated?

When I deactivate the plug in, the 404 page works perfectly.

@mbis I’ve deleted your offer to login to your user’s site. I’m am 100% sure you mean well but please never ask for credentials on these forums.

    https://www.ads-software.com/support/guidelines/#the-bad-stuff

Now for the why: The internet is a wonderful place full of very nice people and a few very bad ones. I’m sure everyone here is very nice however, by giving some ones keys to your house you are trusting they wont steal anything. Likewise the person who takes the keys is now responsible for the house FOREVER.

If something was to go wrong, then you the author may well legally become liable for damages, which they would not normally have been as their software is provided without warranty.

Please be aware that repeatedly asking for credentials will result in us escalating this to the plugins team.

It’s never necessary to do that. Here’s why.

There are many ways to get information you need and accessing the user’s site is not one of them. That’s going too far.

    You get the idea.

Volunteer support is not easy. But these forums need to a safe place for all users, experienced or new. Accessing their system that way is a short cut that will get you into real trouble in these forums.

@carlosvai Please don’t offer to send or post logon credentials on these forums:

    https://www.ads-software.com/support/guidelines#the-bad-stuff

You can contact the author on their own site and, once there, the discussion is between the two of you. However, it is not OK to enter or send site credentials on these forums. We don’t want to encourage others (who are less reputable) to do similar things. It’s a fine line, but one that we need to enforce. Thanks for your cooperation.

    @sterndata,

In fact, I asked for credentials only as a last resort and only if a user owned some development/test/staging website (to make sure that no sensitive data is affected).

However, your arguments are reasonable and for a matter of clarity I will no longer offer such form of support here.

    (@carlosvai)

I understand the moderator point… but he asked for a staging test site.
It will benefit his plug in and my site.
It should be differentiated asking for credentials to the main site and staging site I think. Anyway, thanks both of you.

Regardless, we do not permit asking for or offering logins, whether staging or production.
