Private Events require Editor Role to view

I would like to require login at a lesser level then Editor to view Private Events on the Calendar. I have tried “User Role Editor” plugin to set all of the ai1ec event checkboxes with no help. Even created a new role as a complete copy of all capabilities of Editor and that didn’t work. It seems the All In One Calendar looks for role of Editor before displaying a Private Event. Is there a way around this?
