i’ve found a bug (i think) that if you have a parent page set to private and you edit and update a child page, that child page will loose it’s relationship to the parent page and will reset to a non-parent page.

any tips on how to deal with this?

  • I noticed the same thing happens in Nested Pages if the nested page’s root-parent-page is in “draft” status. When you edit and update the nested child-page, it moves child-page out of the hierarchy and into the root level.

The only way I’ve found around the issue is to make all pages “published”. Then you have to use another plugin to remove from menus if that is your objective. But in your case, you want the page private, which assumes it is not just hidden, but behind a login.

This is a behavior of WordPress core. Version 3.0.3, released today, adds a filter that makes private/draft pages available in the page attributes “parent” dropdown. The page structure will now be maintained after editing a child page of a private page.
