• Can someone please tell me how exactly private pages are supposed to work? I created some pages with several of them being private. I can view them fine when logged in but then when I log out I see a 404 error in the body of my site or a white browser page. Is this supposed to happen? Also, my Blog page was marked private but this still shows when logged out. Can you verify if marking pages private will allow these things:
-Hide page from public, showing a message to register or log in.
-Allow members to view private pages when logged in.

If not, is there something else, like a plug-in, that will?

  • I’m having the same problem. I hope someone can give a solution for this.

But for now, the only thing I can think is to change the 404.php to a message with a link to register, as you said. But… in this case, if a true 404 error occure, the person will se the message of private post and blablablah…

That’s true… so I decided to ditch the in-built privacy settings in WordPress and installed the wp-members plugin instead.
