• I upgraded from 1.5 (I think) to 2.0. I don’t have a problem with the install per se, but on my front page, I had a post marked private, and before, it didn’t show up at all. After the upgrade – same theme, plugins, everything – it showed up for all and sundry to see. Currently I have it password protected so that no one can read it, but it’s still marked private.

Can anyone tell me why I might be having this problem, and what I can to to rectify it? I hate password protecting posts, because odds are later down the road I’ll forget the password.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

  • The opposite happened to me — two or three posts that were public got switched to private after switching to WP2. I think, but am not sure, that this happened when I edited them to change their categories. I am confident that I did not mark them as private myself.

I’ve just created a wordpress instance on the wordpress.com hosted site. I did it as a way to better enable communication with my team at work.

Problem is, some of the communications will likely be proprietary and I’d rather than a private post feature that only lets registered users (my team) view these private communications. Right now a private post is restricted to the person who created it – seems silly to me.

    Any ideas?

One other thing: I’ve noticed that password-protecting posts does not hide them from the public on the wordpress.com hosted instance! Other than prefacing the post as “Protected,” the message can still be read by an unregistered user!
