pro crashing site on activation

this is a new site so relatively uncluttered with potential conflicts.
php 7+, mysql 5+ and all other info on the pro requirements page checked and complies.
theme is generate press, with pro add on.
elementor and elementor extras (extras obs not yet functional)
other than that just wp import/export and wp advanced columns.
not getting any error as such, as soon as i click to activate, site goes down front and backend, http 500 error, had to rename el pro plugin folder in file manager to get the site back.
