• Hi,

First of all I am a huge fan of your plugin. Just would like your insight on an issue some of the users of our plugin Sassy Social Share are facing. On some sites when Sassy and Yoast are active at the same time, social share icons of Sassy do not appear at the home page and the page listing all the posts of the site. One of this kind of issue can be found at the link https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/standard-share-buttons-not-showing-up/
Strange thing is this issue cannot be reproduced even by copying the exact configuration of Yoast and other plugins at another site.
I would appreciate your input on this.

    Thanks and Regards

  • I too am having this issue.

    Hi Rajat and @tylertork,

Thanks for reaching out! There could be many reasons for a plugin conflict, but the most common are related to problems with JavaScript.

To help us troubleshoot, we’d like to get the following information:

    1. Are all your plugins and themes updated? If not, does updating solve the problem?

    2. Check for JavaScript errors in the console. Do any error messages appear?

    3. Are you using the Classic Editor, the Gutenberg plugin, or any third-party page builder plugin to add the content to the pages where this is happening? If yes, which one?

    4. Does this conflict happen if you switch to a default WordPress theme like Twenty Twenty or Twenty Nineteen? We have a guide for checking for conflicts on a live site.?

A page that displays the problem is this: https://staging3.quotesforclarity.com/quotes/

I changed it to Twenty Twenty theme. The plugins are up to date. This is a staging copy which I’ll delete when we’re done here, so I can change anything on it that either of you need.

There are no JavaScript errors in the console. From looking at the HTML, it’s clear the problem is on the server side since there’s no trace of the Sassy Social content at the point where it should appear.

The page in question is the posts page, so I’m not using any editor to edit it.

I have removed all plugins except Yoast and Sassy, and the problem still occurs. I think we have established which plugins are in conflict here, so the check for plugin conflicts seems moot.

I’ve got these same plugins playing together nicely on another site, so I imagine there’s something in the settings or elsewhere in the database that’s causing the difference. I just don’t know what it might be.

    @tylertork

We checked the link and saw the issue appearing. While we are not familiar with your setup it’s quite hard to guess what the exact cause is. We understand Yoast SEO and Sassy Social Plugin both are working nicely on your other setup with exact configuration but not the current staging setup.

If you temporarily deactivate all plugins except Sassy plugins and switched to Twenty Twenty, does the issue resolve?

Does the issue only happen when the Yoast SEO plugin is activated?

That is exactly what I’ve done at the site linked to above. The theme is twenty twenty, there are just two plugins; Sassy and Yoast. With that combination, no share buttons on the posts page. Turn off Yoast and the share buttons appear.

At the moment Yoast is inactive. I’m going to turn it back on in an hour or so.

@tylertork Based on the information you provided, we expect this to be a bug. We’re actively using the bug tracking on our GitHub repository so your best next step would be to create a new issue for our developers at https://github.com/Yoast/wordpress-seo/issues/new. You will need an account to create a new issue. If this is your first bug report, please check out: https://kb.yoast.com/kb/how-to-write-a-good-bug-report/.

I thought this is how plugin users report bugs. Consider this your bug report. I see from another thread I’m not the only person with this problem.

If you want to have someone work with me to debug the issue, I’m available for that.

    Hi @heateor,

It looks like this issue requires someone to look into the technical details of how the Sassy plugin adds the icons to these particular pages and how that might interact with Yoast SEO. This means that this isn’t a support question that we would handle on this forum.

To continue this discussion, we ask you to submit a bug report with any information you have about the steps or settings to reproduce the problem. This may not be something that our developers can address immediately, but a bug report will allow us to gather more information from other users as well.

@tylertork, Thanks for sending more information about your specific site. We can understand that it’s a bit of a hassle to post on GitHub, so we can follow up with plugin developers once they submit a bug report.

Again, if a developer wants to debug a site that is actually experiencing problem, I’ve got a staging site that I’m not using for anything else.

@priscillamc Would you please take a look at the staging site of @tylertork or let me know what could be the possible reason for the conflict? I am sure a lot of other people are also facing this issue.

    Hi @tylertork @heateor

Upon checking https://staging3.quotesforclarity.com/quotes/, it looks like the social share buttons are enabled again, but it also seems like the Yoast SEO plugin has been disabled since it isn’t showing the code in the page source.

Since it was mentioned that for one particular set-up, it was working just fine with both Yoast SEO and Sossy Social Share enabled, and it’s not working with another set-up, it may be due to something else entirely, which would require investigation. We recommend that you file a bug report so that one of our developers can take a look at this and provide further information and so we can also track the users encountering this issue — https://github.com/Yoast/wordpress-seo/issues/new

    Here is the GIT issue.
