Problem adding a new language

  • Hello! I’m creating a Finnish localization of the SpeakUp! Email Petitions plugin. Here’s what I have done so far (I’m not experienced in this, so please point out any errors):

    In the languages subfolder, I made a copy of the French dk_speakup-fr_FR.po file, edited it into a Finnish version dk_speakup-fi_FI.po by changing all the French bits to Finnish (the header of the file also specifies the language as fi_FI), and then I created the corresponding dk_speakup-fi_FI.mo file with the appropriate gettext tool. These two files into the speakup-email-petitions/languages subfolder with identical read privileges as the others.

    Now I just don’t know how to get WPML plugin to recognize the available Finnish translation of SpeakUp! plugin. My site has Finnish (default) and English languages supported, but I can’t seem to get the WPML language selection widget on my petition page, and the Speakup admin interface is also only in English even when I’m working with Finnish interface selected.

    Is this maybe because at the time of installing SpeakUp!, there was no Finnish support in the installation package? Or does the availability of the plugin’s Finnish localisation need to be explicitly specified somewhere? Any ideas on how to get the new Finnish translation/localisation working with WPML? Thanks in advance…

    P.S. An amusing typo I noticed in the English “thank you” message – it says “thank you for SINGING our petition” ??
