• Hi all,
This is my first message here.
Usually I found answers tomy problem without posting but that time it seems that this is pretty specific…
Ok, so I’m starting with WP. I ownthe domain “variarts.com” and wanted to add a Blog to my website under a subdomain. I downloaded WP, uploaded it to “chinababble.variarts.com”, linked the database and installed without any problem.

BUT, my (empty) blog was not accessible online. Actually it was but only if I typed “chinababble.variarts.com/index.php
By typing “index.html” or the root of my subdomain I was seeing a page from my web hoster saying that the page is under construction…

My problem was to redirect “index.html” to “index.php” I tried redirection plugin and even .htaccess file, but nothing was working. So, pretending to be smart, I created a welcome page under “index.html” with a picture and a link to click, leading to “index.php”

At this step I thought everything was fine. but most of the links inside the blog refer to url like “root/?m=200909” (september archives) or “root/?cat=3” (a category) and all are leading to my home page (picture + link, under “index.html”) instead of leadingto the related info :S

So I believe my trick to redirect index.html to php wasn’t that good, and now I’m stuck with a unfonctionnal blog ??

    Thanks for any help guys

    Jim

  • Sounds like you have a comflict between your index.html and index.php and am guessing that you are on a windows server. From what you have described, I believe your re-write rules are not correct.

If you are indeed on a windows server then there is a need for a web.config file within your wordpress installation plus an htaccess. By the sounds of it you are using the same htaccess for your main site with your blog folder.

If you are on a linux server then delete or rename the index.html to allow index.php to take over. Delete the current htacces and reset your permalinks and hopefully that should resolve the problem.

This sounds like the issue I am having as well. My website is zachpetschek.com and my blog is at zachpetschek.com/photographer. My blog was working fine but now the links are wrong. Everything points to zachpetschek.com/… instead of zachpetschek.com/photographer/… I changed something in the general options before this happened and I had also added the plugin “feedburner_feedsmith_plugin_2.3”. Either of them might be the culprit but now I cannot access my admin dashboard. Every link tries to go back to my website root instead of my blog root. .htaccess points to zachpetschek.com/photographer and I have no index.html file. Any help?
