even i’m having the same problem with the custom theme i’m making. I want to show only 2-3 lines of a post on homepage but instead full article is being shown on homepage ??

The truth is that this problem to me is very common and can not understand deverse. I want to show the items summarized, and even select the option in the admin panel still shows the full articles.

looking at the code of index.php, your theme does not seem to have an option for this;
to change it to do what you want, edit index.php of your theme and find:

<?php the_content('Read the rest of this entry ?'); ?>

and change it to:

<?php the_excerpt(); ?>

there is no need to call a function in index.php to get a ‘read more’ link to the post at the end of an excerpt text.
