• I installed WordPress 2.7 the other day. The instillation process went smoothly, but I want my blog address to be different from my WordPress address. I followed the “to be different from directory” link provided under the ‘Blog address (URL)’ box in the ‘General Settings’ section of my WordPress dashboard. The page the link provided instructed me to copy my index.php and .htaccess files in my WordPress directory into the root directory of where I want my blog to be linked to. However, my version of WordPress never came with a .htaccess file. I tried it with only the index.php file, but that only screwed the whole blog up and I had to re-install it. Does anyone have any solutions to my problem?

  • You won’t have an .htaccess file unless you are using pretty permalinks or a plugin that requires it. .htaccess files are invisible unless you set your ftp program to show invisible files.

As for the index.php file, a common mistake I’ve seen is people using their theme’s index.php instead of the index.php in the main WordPress folder.

I am using the index file from my WordPress folder, but for some reason it is still not working… I am moving it to the directory I want and then changing my Blog URL to go to that directory, but the page just comes up blank. It doesn’t say anything like “page not found,” its just completely blank.

The .htaccess file is not under your wordpress inatalltion. It should be inside your root directory (outside the wp-content and wp-admin directory). If it is not present, you can create one and write the code in it.
