PROBLEM: Moved WP from LIVE to TEST server, but Login redirects me into LIVE!!!

  • Hi,

    Guess what? I have a problem.

    I have copied my LIVE server into TEST server as I need to do some maintenance and upgrade. I copied DB (I changed LIVE url with TEST url) and copied all folders from LIVE (ftp).

    Now, when I log into TEST, system show the dashboard of LIVE server.. I think there is something I forgot to change in wp-config or in the DB.. but I don’t know where. I have already changed the user_url in wp_users with TEST server..

    Could you please help me?

  • There are lots of absolute url’s stored in the database, you will need to fix those up.

    Most of them are simple and a search and replace in the database dump or sql update will fix them. Some are more difficult, the ones stored in wp_options have a length before them that will need to be fixed.

    I tend to name my test sites with names that are them length as the production site to get around the last type of absolute urls.

    Indeed I see that when I write the TEST server/wp-admin URL in the browser, I am redirected to LIVE server/wp-admin!!
