    Hello,

I was in the process of moving my WordPress site to my document root. I backed everything up, then changed the path in Settings to my root folder. After that I copied the contents of my WordPress folder to my document root. Once I did all that, the new site didn’t show up under it’s URL. At this point after restoring some files I can see my WordPress site but can’t login to it (even after I changed the path back to my WordPress folder).

I just need to be able to login to the site and try this whole process again.

At this point when I try to login I get:

Warning: Cannot modify header information – headers already sent by (output started at /home/smithg5/public_html/sgwp/wp-content/plugins/revslider/inc_php/framework/include_framework.php:41) in /home/smithg5/public_html/sgwp/wp-includes/pluggable.php on line 1121

Any help is appreciated. Also, I think I’m at WP 3.9 but it could be 3.8.3

    Thanks,
    Dane Petersen

I think I get your question. When I installed WordPress I did all the work in the sgwp folder then yesterday (when I finished the work) I changed the site urls when I wanted to move it to the root directory.

I’d like to change that to point back to the “sgwp” folder but can’t login to my WP site.

Follow this guide, no Dashboard access required: https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Changing_The_Site_URL

That worked–thanks! I think the culprit was an incompatible plugin. However, I don’t know if that also caused the problem of moving the WP site to the root directory. I almost don’t want to try until maybe I contact tech support for my server? What would be the next best step?

Oh, one other thing to mention. I get a long string of error messages every time I log out of my Dashboard/WP site.

Warning: Cannot modify header information – headers already sent by (output started at /home/smithg5/public_html/sgwp/wp-content/plugins/revslider/inc_php/framework/include_framework.php:41) in /home/smithg5/public_html/sgwp/wp-includes/pluggable.php on line

    This happens for multiple lines

Yep, that’s the “revslider” plugin causing the trouble.

At the moment, I recommend just deactivating it until you get this whole move straightened out.

Then, try the move again, but follow this guide very carefully: https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Moving_WordPress

Hmm. That I can do, but it’s needed for my home page. However, there’s a newer version available. Would updating help?

    Moderator James Huff

    (@macmanx)

More than likely, yes, but I recommend getting the move done first. It’s the most complicated bit, and it’s not worth having a known problem plugin get in the way until you’re settled.

    Will do–thanks!

    You’re welcome!

Okay, well–I still can’t move this site over. I just tried it 5 minutes ago; I deactivated BOTH slider plugins and yet the old site still comes up under the url. Followed the directions on what to do to move (which I’ve done with other sites I’ve designed and had no problems) and still can’t get the new site to show up.

    Any suggestions? Thanks in advance

Would you please describe what you mean by “old site still comes up under the url”?

How can you tell between the new site and old, what is (or should be) the URLs of both the new and old sites?

    Thread Starter thedaner

    (@thedaner)

    old site: https://www.smithgun.com
    new site: https://www.smithgun.com/sgwp

When I change the settings in my Dashboard then copy the “sgwp” folder contents to the root folder, the old site still comes up when I type the URL.

I see an HTML site at https://www.smithgun.com/ and a WordPress site at https://smithgun.com/sgwp/ they aren’t the same at all.

Have you tried clearing your browser’s cache?

    Thread Starter thedaner

    (@thedaner)

Sorry. I changed it back in frustration. I’ll try again and if it doesn’t work I’ll leave it to see what could be causing the problem.

Tried again and the WordPress site is not showing up under https://www.smithgun.com
