    Hi all,

    Duplicator
    ==========

    On migrating live website to local PC, automatic change of permalink is my pending problem for sometimes without a solution.

    Live website – Permalinks -> “Post name” (selected)

    After migrating the live website to local PC, the permalink automatically changed to “Plain”
    WordPress running on VM of Oracle VirtualBox
    OS – Ubuntu 20.04

    As a result I have to manually change all links of the migrated website to “Plain”. It involves a lot of manual work.

    Please advise is there a solution?

    Thanks

    Regards

  • Hey @satimis02,

    You should be able to change it back to whatever you want in the WordPress > General > Permalinks settings. When saving that option the directive is set in the .htaccess file which you can get a backup of in the root of your install. You can read more about how the process works here:

    Hope this helps~

    Hi Cory,

    Thanks for your advice.

    You should be able to change it back to whatever you want in the WordPress > General > Permalinks settings.

    Yes, it is correct. After migration I need to select “Plain” on Permalinks Settings. Then I can correctly browse other pages on the migrated website. But I couldn’t browse other pages linked to the Tags created on the page.

    Example on Menu:
    Home
    Page-1
    Page-2
    Page-3
    Page-4
    Page-5
    etc.

    On Page-1
    Tag-1 -> article-1 on Page2
    Tag-2 -> article-2 on Page3
    Tag-3 -> article-3 on Page4
    Tag-4 -> article-4 on Page5
    etc

    The permalinks are still “Post Name”. I need to change all their links to “Plain” manually.

    I’ll go through your document later to see whether it can help.

    ok, sounds good!

    Hi Cory,

    I have no luck unable solving my problem.

    Would it be the problem coming from creating a new database on the VM. I applied this new database on the migrated website. Is it possible retaining the old database of the live site on the migrated site?

    Regards

    Hey @satimis02,

    There are a lot of moving parts to the whole process, so I’m not 100% sure of the underlying cause, however, my guess is that it has something to do with the .htaccess file as that is normally where WordPress handles permalinks. In most cases going to the settings page rewrites the .htaccess to the correct setting.

    Thxs
