• Greetings,

I apologize in advance for my lack of knowledge on this subject. I’ve searched the forums and found similar issues, but nothing that has helped me resolve my problem, so here I am.

I recently purchased a second domain name (from my web host) with plans to make a separate site for the domain through my web host (iPage). I was having a hard time figuring out how to do this, so I searched around and found this guide (https://thebusinessquest.blogspot.com/2010/05/how-to-host-multiple-sites-on-ipage.html).

Sounded great, but when I applied the steps, I come up with a 403 forbidden error stating that “you don’t have permission to access / on the server”. Am I correct in assuming that the error is because of the FTP account I set up?

Presently, the only way I found to “fix” this is to point the domain to my home directory/main site which isn’t what I’d like to do.

Any suggestions on where to go from here? I’ve looked at WP install info to see if that’s part of the problem, but when I’ve tried installing WP to my subdomain folder, it tells me the domain isn’t active (though it shows that it is through my web host).

    Thanks in advance.

  • This seems to me like a question for iPage. It probably depends on the type of account you have with them.

On my host account these steps would be very similar as the ones described in the artilce: register the domain name and tell the registrar the nameservers of my host/ create an addon domain on my host/ create the ftp account for that addon on my host (automatic for mine)/ install WP in the new addon directory using cpanel.

Thanks for the input, Sunrader. I had spoken with them briefly, but they didn’t offer much insight. I’ll try again and see if I can’t get anywhere.
