    My only guess from that guide is to make sure you did steps 1, 6, 7, 9, and 10.

    Those involve both exporting/importing the site’s database and making sure that WordPress is looking at the _right_ database.

    All of your content and settings are stored in the database, so from your description, it sounds like you’re using the new site’s database and not the old site’s imported database.
