It’s probably your serever. Can you do a manual upgrade?

    Checked permissions???

Where would I check permissions? I have had no prior issues w/automatic upgrading prior to this one.

    Thanks…

3.x is bigger than the 2.9 branch, and sometimes severs have issues with that. I’ve found that when my server is overloaded, I can’t even upgrade plugins because the PHP traffic causes problems. That’s why I suggest a manual upgrade. Sometimes it’s just like that. :/

@nicholsvt – you need access to your website’s Control Panel. In your public_html files find your WordPress Folder and look inside to check the CHMODS which are the numbers like 644, 755 etc. at the end of the line after each file. Make sure the permissions are set correctly. 644 should work for individual files and 755 for file folders.

Also – see what folder it is trying to create: by your lines copied it looks like it can’t even install WordPress Folder??? So there is a definite permissions problem which may only be resolved by the following fix below!

If after you do that, you still have the same problem, check with your web host to see that his server has SUPHP installed. You will need that in order to run 3.01 on your server without a hitch – that solved my problem with permissions all together!

SUPHP – Solved my problem with 3.01 WordPress install.
