• I just had a client try to upgrade to version 3.1.8.2 for two different installations. There was a problem both times. I’m not sure exactly what happened. It was as though the upgrade didn’t complete or the files became corrupted. The broken update caused the pages to hang as they were trying to load and pull information from the plugin. I reinstalled the plugin and now things are back to normal.

It’s OK now. I wanted to say something though just in case others were having the issue. I’ve never had a plugin update fail like this. And it happened on two different sites. The plugin script said the plugin was updated and reactivated, but something was wrong. I had to delete the plugin file and reinstall. Then it worked like a charm.

I had the same problem. I updated and failed. The plugin just disappeared in WP plugin list. I then use Add new and reinstall it. It still had problem. I got message as:
Warning: rename(D:\Hosting\8336654\html\geoadvanced/wp-content/plugins/visitor-maps/GeoLiteCity.dat,D:\Hosting\8336654\html\geoadvanced/wp-content/visitor-maps-backup/GeoLiteCity.dat) [function.rename]: File exists in D:\Hosting\8336654\html\geoadvanced\wp-content\plugins\visitor-maps\visitor-maps.php on line 1504

When I check the file in FTP. All files were gone except \captcha. I’m afraid that all my form data has gone.

    Any suggestions?

I downloaded si-contact-form.zip and uploaded using FTP. It works now and all form data are still there.
    Thanks god.

When 3.1.8.2 is first installed, it cleans up the database of the old wp_sessions that are no longer used in the new version. I suspect some users that had busy sites are experiencing a timeout while that cleanup happens because there is so many old session rows in the database. The next time you install it, it does not initiate the cleanup since it already happened and everything is fine.

You can manually cleanup the old wp sessions if you want:

The form data is stored in the database, so it should be there.
The error is concerning the visitor maps plugin, deactivate that one and update the other ones separately, then try updating it. Your server may not have enough free memory to update all at once since the GeoLiteCity.dat file is 30 Meg in size.
