• I am working on a website for a client, and I am currently unable to upload images. I keep getting the following message. It is currently in a staging area.

“DTOS Logo alternate 1.jpg” has failed to upload due to an error
The uploaded file could not be moved to wp-content/uploads.

I have tried changing the permissions on files, and I still haven’t gotten it to work. Am I changing the right information?

    Thanks,
    Jacob

the 1st time try chmod 777 on /wp-content
after that chmod 755 should work

I just tried changing to 777, and it is still not working. I am still getting the same error as before.

what are you changing the permission on?

I am changing the permissions through Fetch

the uploads folder should have 755 permissions and any/all folders inside that should too.

    how big is the file?

can you also list all plugins and themes on your site?

    (@jhummer)

I just went in and took a look at all the permissions, and they are all set to 755, and the file size is only 101 KB

It is currently running the Metro theme from Themify, but I also had the same issues using the stock themes that came with the site. I kept getting the same error for each theme.

I have also tried turning off all of the plugins, to see if that was the problem, and still not uploading. Currently I have the following plugins on.

    BM Custom Login
    Contact Form 7
    iThemes Security
    Really Simple CAPTCHA
    Under Construction

go into the hosting and rename the plugins folder to anything you like and then go back to the site and see if the works.

you’ve got a couple of antique plugins in that list too, BM Custom login hasn’t been updated in nearly 2.5 years… if i were you i’d delete it and find a more current alternative…

Still isn’t working. This is the first time I have ever had this problem.

I will look into a different Custom Login. Any suggestions?

You do have a uploads folder?

Can you open this file, DTOS Logo alternate 1.jpg in a browser?

I do have an uploads folder. I was able to open the image in my browser. I changed the name to clean it up (removing the 1). Here is the link to the picture.

what are the permissions on the uploads folder and folders inside it?

    Thread Starter JHummer

    (@jhummer)

All of the permissions are at 755

Also, when I try the browser upload, I get “Error saving media attachment.”

The url is https://www.pipesalive.com/wp-admin/upload.php?message=3. I’m not sure if that helps to figure this out, but I thought I would post it just in case.

just a quick not, we don’t get to see those kind of links because you’re linking to a page that only you can see as you’re logged in as the admin and we’re not ??
