Problem Using HTML in Text to Add Image in Sidebar

  • A strange thing happened today. I used to have an image in my sidebar with a caption attached but below the image. Well, I changed the caption and copy/pasted the new html code and now the image shows up with the code. After many attempts, I replaced the new code with the old one that used to work. Now, it does the same thing. I’ve deleted my cookies and restarted the computer and tried it all again. It’s still showing the code.

    Here’s what I’m trying to do. When I uploaded my photo to the media library, I added the caption to the image (since WordPress allows you to do that). What this created was a nice little gray box around my picture and caption. I want to have that same look, even if I have to go about it a different way.

    Please help!

    Oh, just in case you need to know this… My theme is: Twenty Ten 1.2 by the WordPress team and I’m using the most recent version and updates.

    You can’t use markup in image captions.

    Use plain text – no HTML – in your image captions.

    My image caption is in plain text. The problem is that I used to be able to copy the html of the image with caption and paste it in the text widget. That would produce the nice gray box around my picture and caption. Now, it won’t work.

    I don’t recall the applying any special styling to image markup in a Text widget. The CSS you describe is specific to captioned images in posts and images in galleries.

    I know. It worked fine until I tried to change it and now I can’t even get the text widget to accept the original html I had. The one that worked.
