Problem verifing website on McAfee siteadvisor

  • I am trying to verify my website on McAfee siteadvisor and keep getting this error

    Posting Web Site Owner Comments
    Error Submitting Site for Verification

    It appears that the Web site gbpcentral.com (or https://www.gbpcentral.com) is returning an HTTP 2xx or 3xx status response code in the header of 404 pages.

    We cannot verify a Web site that is configured this way because it allows anyone to verify themselves as the owner of your site. Please update your Web site server configuration to return 404 status codes in the headers for pages that do not exist. Once your site is configured this way then you can return and request a file name verification.

    Can some one help me with this

    I now know why I could not get them verify it is .htaccess file so I had to rename .htaccess temporally until I could get the file required to verify that I am the owner website and rename .htaccess back .

    I’m having the same issue. What did you briefly name the ‘.htaccess’ file in order for it work?

    You can name it to anything like .htaccess-bak until you are verified and then you need to rename back to .htaccess as that will break your permalinks.

    My site is set to green now
