Problem w/Comment Posts

I am having two problems with the comment functions of wordpress for my blog.

First, when you click on the “No Comment” button on a new post of mine, it directs you to a blank white page that says

“[an error occurred while processing this directive]”.

Second, when you go to a post and try to leave a comment, when you click the submit button, the page directs you a blank white page that says

“WordPress database error: [MySQL server has gone away]
SELECT * FROM wp_comments WHERE comment_ID = ‘7’ LIMIT 1″.

I take it the problem has to do with the databases and I have a little knowledge of databases, but I am not quite sure what I have to do exactly to fix this.
