• Hi,

I have a corporate site that has finally agreed to allow me to update their wordpress install – however their server is pretty locked down for security reasons, so pressing the auto install button asks me for information i’ve never seen previously, and can’t supply..

the server doesn’t have ftp configured and you have to use an really annoying web interface to install new files, to update the whole site this way will take ages… can anyone advise what settings (other than ftp as apparently this just inst gonna happen) I need to turn on to allow this site to auto update like all my other installs?

I have had a brisk read through install manuals, but cant seem to find the requirements that will allow this.

    Thanks,
    Matt

  • Uhm, In my opinion your host is kinda useless. Find a host that let’s you create FTP. That’s what you need to enter into the text fields.

The company is pretty big, this is one of their own servers. FTP is super unsecure, which is why we’d usually use SSH but none of these are options because the IT dept are a bunch of grassholes, only allowing us access to the webmin interface. I just wondered if there was ann apache module missing or something that would allow me to grab and install the files. Curl and other standard modules are installed and configured.

Changing host is not an option. ??

I’m running into the same problem – however I found this : https://www.raditha.com/blog/archives/wordpress-auto-upgrade-and-sftp.html

I am certainly not a server-side expert but this seems to be a hop in the right direction.
