• Hey everyone,

I have a slight problem with visitors commenting on my site, https://www.whistlemytune.com

If they’re not logged into a WP account, they get an error 500 and their comment is not posted. =(

    What could be the problem?

This is pasted from the page they get:

The website cannot display the page
    HTTP 500
    Most likely causes:
    The website is under maintenance.
The website has a programming error.

    What you can try:
    Refresh the page.

Go back to the previous page.

    More information

This error (HTTP 500 Internal Server Error) means that the website you are visiting had a server problem which prevented the webpage from displaying.

For more information about HTTP errors, see Help.

    Please help. =)

    Bekah

  • I have the exact same problem. After user goes to post comment, wp-comments-post.php shows up in the url and the message above appears.
I have upgraded to 2.6.1 from 2.5 but that did not seem to have resolved the issue.

Any ideas? My web site it: https://www.embeddedflash.com

Thanks in advance for all your help.

More information: On firefox, it gives me an error ‘Wrong anti-spam word’
I don’t have any word listed as anti-spam in the admin panel

If you’re seeing those errors in IE, try turning off friendly errors in the browser –

Tools -> Internet Options -> Advanced -> Untick “show friendly error messages”.

Then try whatever it is that makes the error appear again – you might see a WordPress error message insted which could be more helpful.

I can’t see that error message in the core WordPress files, do you have a plugin running that deals with commenting?

Well- I had wp-spam, and I thought this may be related to that, so I’ve removed the directory alltogether. Even then the error seems to come.

If the user is registered, everything seems to go fine- thats a bit strange.

perhaps something is still in the database as a result of that wp-spamfree plug-in?

Upon unchecking ‘show user friendly message, I got same error as firefox BTW. Thanks for all your help

I thought I’d get rid of all the unwanted plug-ins and it started working after removing mycaptcha plug-in. Wonder what was happening……

My guess is that you’re missing something in your template that the mycaptcha plugin needs in order to work.

yes, thats quite possible. So the bottomline is that, if you get this error, check for all the plug-ins and make sure there are no unwanted plug-ins.
