• The problem is in DarkNews if under Homepage Settings the A static page option is selected and the page selected for Homepage has content the content is not shown on the Homepage. If the DarkNews sidebars are enabled they are not shown on the Homepage. Looking at the page source there is no HTML markup from page.php so it seems page.php is not being called.

I checked the AFthemes BroadNews, ChromeNews, Kreeti Lite, and CoverNews all of which do display the selected page’s content on the on the Homepage.

To try to eliminate other factors I spun up a new WordPress installation on Local by WP Engine, installed and activated the DarkNews theme. I published the WordPress sample Privacy Policy page and set it as the Posts page in the Homepage Settings. The WordPress Sample Page was set as the Homepage. I checked that the Sample Page content was not on the Homepage. I installed and activated the CoverNews theme and checked that the Sample Page content is present on the Homepage. Both themes installed were from www.ads-software.com.

I did a little debugging and found the reason DarkNews does not show the selected page’s content for the static page option while other AFthemes do.

DarkNews has a front-page.php which when present displays the front page for the static page option. However neither DarkNews’ front-page.php nor any of its includes is there anything that retrieves the selected page’s content so there is nothing to display.

The AFthemes which work do not have a front-page.php and the selected page’s content is both retrieved and displayed by page.php.

As for the DarkNews sidebars problem for the static page option no matter what sidebar option is chosen the CSS class full-width-content is always added to the body tag rather than the align-content-right or align-content-right needed to display the sidebars.
