Problem with excerpts

  • I am having a real headache here with excerpts on my blog posts i.e. they never appear!

    In a nutshell any text I place in the excerpts window never appears either on the home page or the subsequent link. Only the text which is visible in the main box appears when published. The result is long posts on both the home page and the link, which is not only bad for SEO but also for the general viewing of topics.

    I just ran an experiment by adding a few words to the excerpt but nothing to the main text box and nothing appeared when published. I’ve tried various plugins and none of them are working either. Can anybody tell me where I am going wrong here?

  • Try editing your index.php, archive,.php and category.php files and replacing <?php the_content();?> with <?php the_excerpt();?>.

    I tried looking for that coding you mentioned in my theme but it doesn’t seem to exist.
