My english is not that great, so i might not be able to explain properly my problem.

Browsing the forum, I noticed I’m not the only one having this problem. The pictures i uploaded through the “add media >> upload images” to my posts seem to have disappeared when i try to edit the posts, although they appear in the “text” window.

Below is a link to a post in “Distraction free writing mode” to better understand this issue.

  • I have a similar problem since the wp 3.7 update.

If I edit an image inserted in the post body (add a caption) when the post is published the image appears ok on the frontend. But in the editor (visual mode) I get a large gray iframe which can’t be removed from the post (unless you delete the html image code in text mode).

Saving an unpublished post to draft by clicking the save button produces the same result as publishing it.

Going back in my post archives, all images that have added captions show the same gray iframe in the visual editor.

@whoopie – please update to 3.7.1 – it should fix the image caption problem. Clear any caches on your site and browser. IF that does not fix it, please start a new thread.

@wpyogi – Thanks, just saw the update pending notice on my dashboard.

It works great. Thank you !

I’m having an issue since upgrading to 3.7.1 too. The other night, about halfway through a long article filled with photos, it stopped letting me add a frame and caption to my photos. Every time I try, I go in, click to center the photo, type in a caption, but then it moves my photo back to the left with no caption. My site is https://www.panamaforreal.com. In my latest blog post, I just typed the caption underneath the photo, but it looks much better with the frame around it the way it used to be.

Oh and I’ve tried deleting the cache and it still doesn’t work.

The update has solved the problem for me.

you might wanna start a new thread on that if one doesn’t already exist regarding 3.7.1 issues.

The 3.7.1 update (delivered to my blog and subdomains automatically) seemed to do the trick. I do a weekly pic dump containing about 30 pics, some with captions and looking back in the archives those pics with captions appear ok in the visual editor.

I’ll try adding a new pic with caption to one of those old posts and see what happens.

I wonder if it has something to do with the fact that I’m copying and pasting photos from my blogger blog. I’ve always done it that way though as it just takes way too long to upload each photo in WordPress. I’ve always uploaded the photos in blogger, copied the photo, pasted it into my Wordress post, then clicked to add the frame and caption. But that has always worked up until this point. So I’m not sure what’s up with it.

    @cmpower56,

Just tried adding a new pic and caption to one of my pic dumps (32 pics) and it came out fine.

If you’re just pasting the image into the post rather than uploading to the media library that could be the problem. Some of my writers have done that and I end up having to edit their post because it looks all screwed up.

Could be that the image editor didn’t have anything to reference (like the media library url). Take a look in text mode and see if the html tags resemble other captioned images. The pic may appear in visual mode, but not have a source entry in text mode.

Wish I could be of more help.

Thanks for your help. I’m gonna play around with it a little bit. I hate having to upload straight to wordpress. It just takes so long for each photo. And they take longer to load on the user/reader’s end.
