I just attempted to upgade to 2.2. The content itself come up fine, but, when I try click on login I get the following message:

Warning: Cannot modify header information – headers already sent by (output started at /home/content/A/l/l//html/wp-config.php:1) in /home/content/A/l/l//html/wp-login.php on line 12

And, when I actually try to log in with my User Name and Password, it accepts my information, but, I get the following 4 errors:

Warning: Cannot modify header information – headers already sent by (output started at /home/content/A/l/l//html/wp-config.php:1) in /home/content/A/l/l//html/wp-login.php on line 12

Warning: Cannot modify header information – headers already sent by (output started at /home/content/A/l/l//html/wp-config.php:1) in /home/content/A/l/l//html/wp-includes/pluggable.php on line 367

Warning: Cannot modify header information – headers already sent by (output started at /home/content/A/l/l//html/wp-config.php:1) in /home/content/A/l/l//html/wp-includes/pluggable.php on line 368

I have already tried deleting and reinstalling 2.2 with the same results.

Additionally I re downloaded a new zip, just in case the Zip was corrupt, and re installed once again, with exactly the same errors as above.

    Any suggestions?

    With many thanks,

  • No need to re-install. Just delete the blanks space from the beginning of your wp-config file.
Make sure there is no blank space before the initial:
    <?php...

    Did you deactivate plugins 1st?
If not, deactivate them and test. Reactivate one by one until you find the conflict.

Thank you very much for your sugestions Moshu and Samboll.

moshu ~ I just checked with my Expression Web code editor and there are no spaces before the begginning of the file

Samboll ~ I do not believe I had any plug ins activated to deactivate. However, I am not able to get into the login area to check.

I don’t know what is expression web editor – but try with a simple plain text editor, like Notepad.

Thank you moshu ~ I verified that there are no spaces in Notepad. Any other ideas?

Just for your information, Expressions Web is Microsoft’s replacement for FrontPage, which they discontinued.

Samboll ~ To clarify my earlier statement: There were Plug ins listed, but, I do not believe they were activeated. As I can not log in, do you have a sugestion for me to remove those plug ins from the server?

Is this the site linked to your name/profile here?
I can see your login page without any error. Did you try clearing your cache?

Oh wow, It did not cross my mind that you would check the site on my profile: No it is not the one! My sincere apologies.

The one on my profile works fine after upgrade to 2.2

I can see the login page even there – although yes, it displays the error message at the top.
Now, I might sound like a broken record but reading correctly the error message takes you back to the line #1 of the wp-config file.

moshu ~ You are incredible – It’s fixed. Thank you very much.

I clicked on the link you just gave me. I made the changes, using notepad, to the beginning and end “<?php“ making sure that their were no spaces. This did not work. So I replaced the config file with a newly downloaded configsample.php. I made the user changes as indicated. I then replaced my old config with this configsample, and renamed it to config.

    This worked!!

The confusing part, is that I could see absolutely no difference in the notepad browsers for the two files. But mine is not to question why, but to do as brilliant people like moshu tell me.

Thanks again moshu; and, did I tell you, you are brilliant?
