Problem with reading and leaving comments on blog

I recently changed my theme from xMark to Elegant Grunge 1.0.3 by Michael Tyson and all seemed fine at first until a fellow reader alerted me to her inability to leave a comment. Looking at the latest post, it said ‘1 comment’ at the bottom of it. Upon clicking it, it took me to the post page and directed me to the bottom of the post stating ‘1 response to [post name]’ but I wasn’t able to read the comment or see the section where i could enter a comment.

I’m unsure if this is because my wordpress is outdated. I’ve tried changing a couple of things like updating my permalinks so it’s writeable but nothing seems to work. I’m a little confused because I’m not good with code.
