• Regardless of what I use as the static page and the post page, I get the same errors. I am trying to use Membership Sign Up page as the static page so that one can subscribe to the side. (and the name of the page was suggested by s2 so I complied.

I get these messages below, no matter what I do. Any ideas as to ow to resolve this issue? I would appreciate it.

s2Member: Your Membership Options Page is currently configured as your Home Page (i.e. static page) for WordPress. This causes internal conflicts with s2Member. Your Membership Options Page MUST stand alone. Please correct this. See: WordPress -? Reading Options. Or change: s2Member -? General Options -? Membership Options Page.

  • First, let’s get the terminology sorted out because it seems to be what is confusing you.

There’s no such thing in s2member as the Membership Sign Up page. In fact, you can have your users sign up from any page. From the error message, I think you are talking about the Membership Options Page (MOP), which is rather different.

As the error message indicates, the MOP cannot be your home page. You must instead designate another post or page. It can be any other post or page, apart from the MOP and the Welcome page.

Now you have a choice. You can either use the s2Member widget to put the sign up form in a widgetized area, like a sidebar, or you can add a signup form to the main body of your home page.

Just in case you’re wondering, you can still have the signup form on the MOP too, if you like. You just can’t have the MOP as the home page, because it needs to handle various redirects.

So forgive my less than proper terminology. Yes, it’s the MOP, and it gives the Membership Sign Up as an option, and that’s why I chose that.

Other pages I have tried, regardless of their names, have given me the same action and error. So, do you have any ideas as to what the perfect page should be called in order for it to work?

    I appreciate it.

When you say “it gives the Membership Sign Up as an option,” it’s actually just listing all the pages you have created. And, evidently, you have created one called Membership Sign Up. (That’s why talking of the “Membership Sign Up” page means nothing to the rest of us, who haven’t given a page that name.)

You can still have your Membership Sign Up page as your MOP. But, whichever page you choose as your MOP, you can’t have that page as your home page as well.

Your home page and your MOP must always be different, irrespective of what you choose to call them on your own site.

Thank you. Now, for the $64,000 question. What page needs to be created in order to get this home page to work? That’s all I’m trying to find out. Everyone tells me what not to use, but no one says what is advisable.

That’s because you can use whatever you want, except for the Welcome page and the MOP.

Without knowing what sort of site you are running, or what your posts are about, or what your other pages are called, it’s impossible to advise you as to which would be the best choice.

Thanks, again. One last effort here. I want a Static Page (home page) that has a welcome and the PayPal button to pay for a subscription. The Post page I want to use Blog, as that woould seem to work by allowing the already subscribers access there. Hope this helps ex[lain what I’m trying to do. Just a home page for those to join.

I appreciate your help and patience.

OK, so it sounds like all your site will be protected (other than the home page and the MOP, of course).

In that case, you could start by creating a home page that is essentially a clone of your MOP (but isn’t your MOP). You could call it Join Here, or Sign Up, or Subscribe, or whatever you want. Just put a payment button or form on it, and away you go. (As I said before, you can have registration forms, or buttons, on as many pages as you like.)

After a while, you will likely find you need to refine how this page looks or reads, and even change its title, but that will be easy to do and cause you no problems.

I think this would get you close to what were originally trying to do.

Just to be clear, though: I’m not saying it’s either the only way, or even the best way. You’ll be able to refine your approach after some use.

Thank you very much. That was what I needed. I was confused in the wording in the General Options. I understand it better now. Sometimes, the obvious is too distorted for some of us old bucks.

Your kindness is appreciated. Have a good evening.

My pleasure — glad we got it all working!

Just to add if I may – what do I do if I do not need a MOP please ?

I wish to give me users a username and password as I do not not want anyone joining. This is for a club website with hidden pages and menu items until users log in and they suddenly see new menu items and pages.

Is this possible with S2 please ? If so how about the MOP ?

Thanks very much for the help – really appreciate it.

    @sjo007,

In order to get s2Member to work, you MUST assign one page as your MOP. Until that’s done, it will just lie dormant.

But don’t worry about the MOP. It’s just the page to which anyone gets directed if they attempt to access a protected post, page, or file without being logged in or having the appropriate permissions. s2Member doesn’t add any content to this page. It’s up to you to have it say what you want.
