• Hi All,

I am new to the forums, but not to WP. I have several sites running WP.

Recently on one site, they all run the same plugins, all up to date, but on one site the scrollbars / sidebars [browser] suddenly vanished. This is across Firefox, IE and Chrome. I have tried changing them, doing an options etc reset, but cannot get them back.

I am assuming I must be missing something really obvious?

Any help would be so appreciated.

    Kind Regards – Cheers Shaun

While we cannot address that with the information provided, we can ask you to review how best to get support here:

You could create a perfect thread and your thread can still go unanswered for a year, that’s just a compromise you’ll have to accept when asking for volunteer-driven help.

Please outline how we can replicate the issue.

    Hi Andrew,

Not really sure how to do that.

You can click on the link above, which shows exactly what is going on.

    I can PM you login/pass?

Cheers and apologies for gung ho : (

You can’t PM here. I know you want the solution without worrying about the details, but please don’t give away access to your website. In my experience, people who do that also end up getting hacked one way or another.

    Andrew,

I have been using and building websites, web-servers and the internet since the mid 80s.

My server is fully protected, well as protected as any “connected” system really can be. [ANY connected system is vulnerable to a determined attack] I have run win and linux servers. I prefer linux.

I was offering the password to one bit of isolated software on the server. Essentially the ONLY threat that would offer would be to upload malware into the database. But AV and 2 other systems would notice and isolate it. Its very different offering limited access to sort a problem on a support forum, to offering access to any kind of critical server system. Most hacks on WP and other things running php/asp etc are by script kiddies with nothing better to do.

I design games for a living and have run numerous very large gaming sites and dev-source/code/game/beta servers. I am aware, very much so of security! Maybe I am still running on the old fashioned concept the net was based on, about helping each other etc. I find the community at phpbb are still VERY much like the old net used to be. [ie: trust is given and taken]

I have given you the site URL, a screen of the page showing ALL the plugins, what theme I am using, described what the problem is, what other information can I give you? My server environment? If I knew I would be able to give you more info…..

    Cheers – Shaun

That was a little tip I gave you from myself, sorry if I patronised you.

What I usually say is that it is beyond the scope of the forums to do anything other than post comments. If you require someone to log into your application then I don’t think the www.ads-software.com forums are for you. That is fine, forums are difficult to use to debug some issues. In those cases I recommend you post at https://jobs.wordpress.net .

what other information can I give you?

Does the issue occur on a particular browser? If so, which browser? Or device, which device? When I visited your website I couldn’t replicate the issue – unless I’m looking at the wrong thing when you refer to “scrollbar”.

I find the community at phpbb are still VERY much like the old net used to be. [ie: trust is given and taken]

I think people are naive to accept access to someone else’s installation, or perhaps bigheaded. Developers do make mistakes and these installations are live. Then there’s the risk of inheriting someone else that breaks in the future because the person asking for help doesn’t know exactly what the developer changed. It happens, especially when the person asking for help is a client. Clients are brutal, they just want the fix ASAP and don’t care how they go about it. An example, someone gave a theme developer admin access and then that someone got hacked 2 weeks later. The developer was blamed and there was not much he could do about it. The account was given had a poor password for the theme author and it was hacked. This actually happened from the www.ads-software.com forums. Don’t really have time to give more points.
